Florida: Rubio urges investigation of nursing home deaths. US Sen. Marco Rubio (R) has written Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and ranking member Ron Wyden (D-OR) calling for an investigation into the 14 deaths of seniors at a Hollywood Hills rehabilitation center. The deaths occurred when the home lost power during Hurricane Irma. Rubio said that the deaths “shocked the state of Florida” and “raised questions about the oversight of nursing homes, particularly the enforcement of existing emergency preparedness requirements,” reports Sunshine State News ……. Tennessee: Cohen cosponsors bill on property seizure. A bipartisan bill introduced by US Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) and two Democrats, including US Rep. Steve Cohen (D), would prevent the Justice Department from funding the seizure of property by law enforcement agencies. Walberg cited a large number of seizures without criminal convictions ……. National Rifle Ass’n: Southern GOPers among recipients of NRA contributions. Four Southern Republican senators were among the top ten recipients of NRA campaign funds from 1989 to date, reports the New York Times. They were Richard Burr (NC), Thom Tillis (NC), Marco Rubio (FL) and Bill Cassidy (LA). No Democrats made the list. In the House, three Dixie GOPers were in the top ten: French Hill (AR), Pete Sessions (TX) and Barbara Comstock (VA). The highest ranking Democrat was Sanford Bishop (GA), who came in 41st …….
