Rubio defends Gillespie on the trail in Virginia

ARCOLA, Va. — Florida Sen. Marco Rubio hit the trail for Virginia Republican Ed Gillespie on Monday night, defending him from Democratic criticism that he’s running a racially tinged campaign a week before Virginia elects its next governor.

Rubio’s speech at a Loudoun County plumbing company was largely a paean to former President Ronald Reagan and America’s founding principles, but he also endorsed Gillespie’s ads arguing that Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam’s support for sanctuary cities would help the growth of MS-13, an El Salvadoran gang.

Rubio said mentioning MS-13 would “be like talking about organized crime but refusing to talk about the mafia.”
