Virginia: Gillespie gains. The latest poll, by the Washington Post-Schar School shows that over the past month, Republican Ed Gillespie gained 4 points while Democrat Ralph Northam lost 4 points, resulting in a 49% to 44% lead for Northam, down from his 53% to 40% lead in the same group’s poll released Oct. 2, cutting his lead from 13 points to 5 points. The cause is likely Gillespie’s hard-hitting, but controversial, TV spots tying Northam to crimes by the MS-13 gang of (mostly) Salvadoran immigrants ……. Alabama: Moore makes second visit to Washington. The GOP’s US Senate nominee in a special election on Dec. 12, former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, made his second visit to Capitol Hill on Tuesday, this time dining with the Republican senators at their weekly lunch and chatting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Moore, however, declined to answer media questions about his controversial positions on Muslims and gays ……. Texas: Barton’s daughter tops congressional campaign salaries. Kristin Barton, daughter of US Rep. Joe Baron (R), has been paid $59,714 in 2017 as her father’s campaign treasurer, the highest paid of the eleven relatives of members of Congress on campaign payrolls. Barton’s office told The Hill that Ms. Barton previously worked in New York’s financial world and her father trusts her in that position. Other Southern members with relatives on a campaign payroll this year include US Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL), who paid his sister-in-law $17,750, and US Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), who paid his son $8,191 …….
