Kentucky: State Rep kills self. State Rep. Dan Johnson (R), who was accused of molesting a 17-year old girl at a New Year’s party in 2012, was found dead of a gunshot wound yesterday, a death the police determined was self-inflicted, reports the Courier-Journal. Johnson had said the charges were without merit. However, GOP leaders in the House and the state party had asked him to resign. Rebecca Johnson, his widow, says she will seek to replace him in the state House of Representatives ……. Texas: Farenthold won’t seek reelection. US Rep. Blake Farenthold (R), who has served in Congress since 2011, announced yesterday that he will not seek reelection in 2018. Farenthold had settled a sexual harassment claim against his former press secretary for $84,000; since then, two other former staff members have publicly complained about his behavior and the House Ethics Committee has reopened its investigation into the Congressman’s behavior ……. South Carolina: Quinn pleads guilty in corruption probe.State Rep. Rick Quinn (R) resigned from the state House of Representatives Wednesday then pled guilty to one count of misconduct in office, a misdemeanor. The judge deferred sentencing, but the special prosecutor urged that he receive the maximum sentence of one year in prison. “There’s nobody in Columbia like Rick Quinn,” the prosecutor told the judge, reported The State newspaper, citing Quinn’s frequent denials that he was involved with his father’s consulting firm, Richard Quinn and Associates, although he worked on legislation for his father’s clients and helped the firm make millions of dollars …….
