Virginia: One vote costs GOP control of House of Delegates. When a recount was completed in the 94th House district, Democratic challenger Shelly Simonds defeated incumbent Republican Del. David Yancey (R) by one – yes, one – vote. That means Republicans and Democrats have an even split – 50 seats each – and for the first time in 17 years, the GOP won’t have a majority and will have to share power with the Democrats ……. South Carolina: McMaster declares opioid emergency. Gov. Henry McMaster (R) declared a statewide public health emergency to help cope with opioid deaths. He signed an executive order limiting post-hospital opioid prescriptions to a five days supply. “There’s a silent hurricane going,” McMaster said, “and it’s getting worse,” reported the Post & Courier ……. Arkansas: Hutchinson announces interactive job map. Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) unveiled the state’s latest tool to attract new industries or expand existing ones. By clicking on any area on the map, one can see how many jobs have been created there in the past three years. “It will be an excellent resource for Arkansans and prospective investors, alike,” Hutchinson said, “clearly demonstrating the rapid amount of economic growth Arkansas has seen since 2015,” reported KARK …….
