South Carolina: Gowdy a puzzle. US Rep. Trey Gowdy (R), who is retiring at the end of his current term, has raised eye-brows on Capitol Hill. A former prosecutor, he led the investigation into Benghazi, helping which helped create an issue for the GOP and he is currently investigating the FBI for signs of [pro-Democratic] bias. On the other hand, he has praised special prosecutor Robert Mueller and said of President Trump, “When you are innocent, act like it.” He tells reporters, “I try to call balls and strikes,” reports The Hill ……. Texas: Cuellar sees “good place” for Blue Dogs. In anticipation that the House will be more closely divided after the fall elections, US Rep. Henry Cuellar (D), co-chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition of centrist Democrats, believes moderates such as the Blue Dogs will have a greater role in fashioning legislation, reports The Hill. US Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) hopes for the same thing for the New Democrat Coalition; Connolly is the whip for the group of moderates. Stay tuned! …….
