Louisiana: Cassidy sponsors healthcare bills. US Sen. Bill Cassidy (R), a physician, is sponsoring two bills on healthcare. One is a bipartisan measure that would increase federal funding to combat the opioid epidemic. He told WAFB in Baton Rouge that teenagers especially don’t have enough treatment facilities. Cassidy is also sponsoring a bill that would provide transparency in medical billing, so that patients know in advance how much a test or procedure would cost and if the price tag was too high, they could look for a cheaper alternative ……. North Carolina: Cooper for president? At a Politico event yesterday at Duke University, the moderator asked Gov. Roy Cooper (D) which Democrats he would like to run for president. Cooper replied, “Being the governor of a swing state, I’m sure I’ll get some calls.” But, reports the News & Observer, Cooper added that he intended to fill out his current gubernatorial term, plus another four years after that ……. Texas: Donor gives Planned Parenthood $9 million.  An anonymous donor has promised $9 million to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas to construct two clinics in West Texas, an area with no Planned Parenthood facilities since 2013. It has not been stated whether the two clinics will offer abortion services; of the 35 Planned Parenthood clinics in the state, reports the Dallas Morning News, six offer abortions, the other 29 do not …….
