Florida: A Murphy-Jolly ticket for governor? Former US Rep. Patrick Murphy (D), who lost a challenge to US Sen. Marco Rubio (R) in 2016, has commissioned a poll to see how a bipartisan ticket, featuring Murphy in the top spot with former US Rep. David Jolly (R) as his running mate for lieutenant governor, would fare in this year’s gubernatorial election. Murphy told the Tampa Bay Times, “Working across the aisle was a hallmark of my two terms in Congress.” And Jolly added, “[T]here are opportunities for bipartisan leadership to solve some of our country’s toughest issues” ……. Texas: Abbott schedules special election. Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced that the special election to fill U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold’s (R) seat in congress will be held on June 30. The filing deadline is this coming Friday. A runoff, if no candidate receives 50%-plus, will be held in September. The winner will serve until January 2019, when Farenthold’s term expires ……. Oklahoma: Fallin signs hemp bill. No, the Sooner State is not legalizing marijuana. The legislature and the governor, however, have authorized universities or farmers contracting with universities, to grow industrial hemp and examine whether such a crop, currently outlawed, could contribute significantly to the state’s economy.
