South Carolina: Old scandal upends Parnell campaign. Archie Parnell, the Democrat who ran a close race against 5th District US Rep. Ralph Norman (R) last year, is facing multiple calls from prominent Democrats to withdraw his candidacy in the face of publication of a charge of beating his then-wife in 1973. A number of his staff members, including his campaign manager, have resigned, and the state Democratic chair has called on him to step aside. So far, Parnell has stayed in the race, citing the time-lapse since the incident and his subsequent successful marriage ……. Tennessee: Corker not moving to Australia. US Sen. Bob Corker (R), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told The Tennessean that although he had discussed the possibility of his becoming ambassador to Australia with President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, he decided he does not want that job. However, “I shared with them there may very well be some other task down the road that they may need me to tackle on behalf of our country.” ……. Virginia: Goodlatte to modify immigration bill. After a series of conference calls with Republican House members, US Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, is proposing changes to the pending immigration bill, which must come out of his committee, that will attract more support from moderate GOPers.
