Florida: Putnam says concealed weapons snafu now solved. State Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam (R), a candidate for governor, says that processes have been put in place so that the 291 concealed weapons permits issued that should not have been will not happen again. Putnam came under fire after the Tampa Tribune reported that an Agriculture Department employee quit checking applicants’ names with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System ……. Texas: GOP declines to censure Cornyn. The Texas Republican Convention’s platform committee, on a voice vote, rejected a motion by a county party to censure US Sen. John Cornyn (R) and several US house members for voting for spending measures. And by a vote of 17 to 13, the committee removed a platform plank that reaffirmed the right of Texas to secede from the union ……. Virginia: Kaine attacks Stewart over Confederate symbols. US Sen. Tim Kaine (D) in a speech to a Democratic audience on Saturday, accused his Republican opponent, chairman of the Prince William County board of supervisors, of having ties to known racists and anti-Semites, citing Stewart’s association with two organizers of the protests in Charlottesville. In response, Stewart said he was unaware of the men’s extreme views at the time and that he had since distanced himself from them, reported the Washington Post. Stewart also challenged Kaine and the media “to find one racist thing I’ve ever said.” …….
