Virginia: Jeb Stuart elementary school now named for Obama. The times they are a-changing, and the Richmond board of education this week voted to change the name of J. E. B. Stuart Elementary School to honor Barack Obama. The school is 90%+ African American. The board’s vote was six to one in favor of the change, the latest in a series of name changes for Southern institutions named after Confederate leaders ……. Oklahoma: Inhofe now defends Pruitt. US Sen. James Inhofe (R) last week said he had “had enough” of stories about misdeeds by fellow Oklahoman Scott Pruitt, the head of EPA. But after a face-to-face meeting with Pruitt, Inhofe now says most of the problems were due to disgruntled former employees, the big-spending federal bureaucracy and unfair media coverage, reports the Washington Post ……. Texas: GOP removes some anti-gay language from its platform. The Lone Star State Republican Party has a long history of anti-gay rhetoric in its platforms, but this year, due to the efforts of Log Cabin Republican activists, the platform committee excised two sentences that they deemed especially egregious. “Two-and-a-half years of work…, “ gay GOPer Marco Roberts told the Dallas News; “The Republican Party of Texas no longer condemns people simply for being gay.” …….
